How to drape a dhoti perfectly for any occasion?

Dhoti

When it comes to tradition and culture, India holds its head high. Saree, salwar kameez, dhoti, kurta are some of the traditional dress belongs to India and worn with pride and dignity. Dhoti is an Indian traditional wear for men worn with kurta or shirt. Wearing dhoti is a tradition that is followed generation after generation. The word derives from the Sanskrit word dhauta and is known by different names at different places such as Laacha in Punjab, dhuti in Bengal, veshti in Tamil Nadu, Panche in Karnataka, Mundu or Veshti in Kerala, Dhotar in Maharashtra and so on.

Unlike other dresses, Dhoti remains unstitched and is usually 5 yards long, which makes it sacred and pure. It is tied around waist and legs. Though there is a particular method to tie the knot to add grace to the attire, however, people can drape it to make a style statement of their own. It is considered as a formal ethnic wear and is worn during weddings, visiting temples and other family functions.  In certain parts of the country, men wear Lungi, which is a similar piece of cloth and draped in the same manner. However, it is meant for informal occasion or as nightwear.

There can be different styles of draping a dhoti; however, the most common style is as follows:

·         Take a dhoti and find its middle.
·         After dividing the cloth, tie a knot near the navel.
·         Make a series of folds on the right side and tuck the folded part at the waist.
·         Again, make another series of folds on the left side.
·         Take the folded part of cloth behind from between your legs and then tuck it.

In this way, you can drape your dhoti and look perfect for any traditional occasion. These are available in pure white, crème and many other color variants.
