worn with pride and dignity. Dhoti is an Indian traditional wear for men worn
with kurta or shirt. Wearing dhoti is a tradition that is followed generation
after generation. The word derives from the Sanskrit word dhauta and is known
by different names at different places such as Laacha in Punjab, dhuti in
Bengal, veshti in Tamil Nadu, Panche in Karnataka, Mundu or Veshti in Kerala,
Dhotar in Maharashtra and so on.
Unlike
other dresses, Dhoti remains unstitched and is usually 5 yards long, which
makes it sacred and pure. It is tied around waist and legs. Though there is a
particular method to tie the knot to add grace to the attire, however, people
can drape it to make a style statement of their own. It is considered as a
formal ethnic wear and is worn during weddings, visiting temples and other
family functions. In certain parts of
the country, men wear Lungi, which is a similar piece of cloth and draped in
the same manner. However, it is meant for informal occasion or as nightwear.
There can be different
styles of draping a dhoti; however, the most common style is as follows:

a dhoti and find its middle.

After
dividing the cloth, tie a knot near the navel.
·
Make
a series of folds on the right side and tuck the folded part at the waist.

Again,
make another series of folds on the left side.

Take
the folded part of cloth behind from between your legs and then tuck it.
